Our History

George Fraley, then of Easton, was the first president. New Jersey Jazz Society members Madeline and Warren Vache, Sr. of Rahway, along with local jazz musician and entrepreneur, Parke Frankenfield, were very helpful in getting the club formally organized. The first concert, which took place at Green Pond Country Club in 1979, sold out. Featured groups were Parke Frankenfield’s Dixieland All-Stars and Benny Ventura’s New York Jazz Band.

As the membership has grown and evolved, it has branched out well beyond the confines of the Lehigh Valley to include numerous members from the Philadelphia area, from the Reading area, from the Poconos, from New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut.

The Pennsylvania Jazz Society typically presents six concerts per year.

The Society’s Outreach Activities have included sponsorship of concerts and clinics in local schools, as well as concerts for residents of nursing homes.
